About

Nestled in beautiful Green Creek, North Carolina, Root & Earth is a medicinal plant and mushroom company devoted to supporting the health of people and the planet. Guided by our passion to connect people with the healing power of the botanical world and our belief in accessible plant and mushroom medicine, we began crafting potent, high-quality, and effective medicinals.

Root and Earth offers a wide variety of wild harvested and ethically sourced plant and fungi medicinals. Always honoring the natural growth and harvesting cycles while working in respect to endangered and over-harvested plants.

We are proud to offer whole fruiting body mushrooms. Never any filler or grain. All of our medicinal mushroom extracts are wild harvested except for Cordyceps, which is sourced responsibly by organic growers. We always use the double extraction method with our mushroom extracts to ensure maximum bio availability.

We gather only the most vibrant herbs at the time in their growth cycle when medicinal qualities are at their peak. We are dedicated to using fresh plant material as much as possible and source from organic and ethical sources when needed.

Leslie Massey

Herbalist/Concoctress

Integrative Nutrition Counselor

Educator

Leslie’s botanical curiosities were piqued at an early age when a family member gave her a copy of David Hoffman’s The Complete Illustrated Holistic Herbal. The hours she spent as a child devouring the content of that book created in her a calling to walk the plant path.

During a time of ill-health, the plants began coming to her in dreams. One by one, divulging their medicinal benefits and communicating their potentiality in her journey back to wellness. These dreams revealed to her how intricately woven plants are to the human experience.

Out of determination to heal her health challenges, Leslie went onto formally train in Western Herbalism at Gaiananda Herbal Studies in Charleston, SC. She expanded on this foundation by attending the Northwest School of Botanical Studies. She continues to learn beside some of the best herbalists to date.

Leslie attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where she learned the latest in nutrition science and health coaching. She has taken countless functional medicine courses in gut health, women’s health, hormone balance, skin health, autoimmune disorders, chronic pain management, and functional lab analysis.

She blends these paths with her formal training in psychology and mental health counseling to create a program that encompasses mind, body and spirit; with the knowledge that when one area is out of balance, the others follow suit. Learn more about the Root Cause Sessions program, where she takes a functional approach to health by looking for the root cause of symptoms. She also offers single sessions to explore ways plants and mushrooms can support you in finding your way back into balance.

She specializes in but is not limited to:

  • Women’s Health
  • Hormone Balance
  • Gut/Digestive Health
  • Skin Health
  • Mental Health and Wellness
  • Chronic Pain
  • Nutritional Guidance
